quick question...

i have a friend (sort of... ive met her a couple times) from SFU who's in Norway right now at the school i will be going to in january. we met at a c4c retreat last year and i told her about my exchange and got her in touch with UBC's exchange program, and anyways... i know her a bit, from what i know she's a really nice girl, lots of fun... maybe not super grounded in her faith, but a Christian seeking to learn more. nonetheless i was super excited that she's goign to be in norway while im there cuz i think the hardest part of traveling is coming home and not having people who've shared the experience with you...

anyways, i emailed her about rooming together when i get there, and she told me to request to be in her flat and gave me the room #, etc that i should ask for. but it turns out that she's living with 4 norwegian guys and one girl right now (was randomly assigned), and when i get there, i would live with her and the 4 guys... which im not sure is the best decision? should i request to be with her? or send in a request to be in an apartment with just girls? is that even a question, or is the answer obvious?

i should send my application within the next day or so!! thoughts?

I guess it really depends on you Rainbow. Personnaly I would find it difficult to live with guys and so I would probably ask to live somewhere else, but I don't think it's like "wrong" or something. I guess it just depends what you can deal with. (sorry don't know if that helped at all)

ditto. cause i would probably either hate living with them or like it too much.

Lol jess... hate it or like it too much. Nice way of putting it.

Now I know I'm not a girl or anything, but I definately would feel uncomfortable living together with another girl (that is not my family). Maybe another possible alterntive is to request an all girls flat in the same apartment or in an apartment nearby?

Dunno, maybe ask Chara. I believe she's doing the whole housemating co-ed thing this year.

ahaha...yea..i've lived with guys in 1st on my floor, last year, and this year with Mark. it really depends on a) the guys, and b) your comfort/tolerance level. my housemate right now, mark, is pretty much the nicest, most considerate, fun-loving guy i know. so it's GREAT living with him...no complaints @ all. he's not sketchy in what he says/does and all his friends are awesome too who come over, so there's never any problems there. and he's not a christian either...so it's kinda like the siutation you're in.

and last year with Nick, he was 100% addicted to his computer games. So he'd come home from work, play games, eat dinner, play more games, sometimes resurface to watch tv, then go to sleep. again, no problems there.

so what am i saying? kinda what everyone else said: it depends on the guys and more importantly, their lifestyle. I don't think you should be afraid of living with a guy vs. a girl...i think it's more a matter of living with someone who has a certain lifestyle, which WILL DEFINITELY influence your life too cuz you have to live with them. for example, their cleanliness, if they have a gf (hence awkward waking up in the morning to a random girl in your shower), drinking habits, studying habits, their friends they'll be inviting over, their level of respect/consideration for others, etc.

BUT, you can also find those qualities in girls too. so i guess you're back to square one.

my gut says to live with girls only, though, when in doubt and cuz you don't know the guys ahead of time.

hmmm.. thanks for the thoughts guys! ill email them and see what my options are for requesting rooming arrangements... and probably request a girls apartment if i can. i think i'd feel more comfortable too, and that's 4 more opportunities to be a life witness in a real way without always checking myself for getting too intimate...

merci beaucoup mes amis!
